Not necessarily. The practical and funding route depends on your parking arrangement, tenure and local permissions.
If you have a driveway or private designated parking:
A charger can usually be mounted on the house or a post close to the parking space. Eligible renters and people who own and live in a flat can apply for the OZEV flats and renters grant, worth 75% of eligible costs up to £500. The applicant must have private off-street parking and an eligible vehicle.
If you only have on-street parking:
OZEV has a separate grant of up to £500 for eligible households installing a permanent cross-pavement solution, subject to highway and other required permissions. Transport Scotland also funds a separate Energy Saving Trust cross-pavement scheme in participating council areas.
Scottish rural and remote households:
Energy Saving Trust's domestic charge point grant provides up to £400 for eligible households in rural or remote postcode categories with annual household income of £50,000 or less.
These are grants, not a general Home Energy Scotland interest-free charger loan. You must apply and receive an offer before installation begins. We can explain the relevant route and provide the installer information you need, but the customer submits the application.
