How big is a battery and where does it go?

Home batteries are more compact than most people expect. They are designed to fit neatly into domestic spaces.

Typical dimensions:

  • Wall-mounted units — roughly the size of a large flat-screen TV, around 1100mm x 750mm x 150mm, depending on model
  • Floor-standing modular units — often similar to a small boiler or dishwasher
  • Weight — typically 50-115 kg depending on the model. Wall-mounted units need a solid wall for support

Common installation locations:

  • Garage — the most popular choice. Keeps the unit out of the way and accessible for any future maintenance
  • Utility room — a good option if you do not have a garage
  • External — some models, including Tesla Powerwall, are rated for outdoor installation. This is useful if internal space is limited
  • Under stairs or in a cupboard — possible for some models, subject to ventilation and safety requirements

Safety requirements:

Batteries must be installed in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and current regulations. We carry out a full assessment of the proposed location, considering ventilation, access, fire safety, and any other relevant factors.
