Modern solar panel systems require very little maintenance. This is one of their biggest advantages — once installed, they largely look after themselves.
Day-to-day:
Rainfall in Scotland does a good job of keeping panels clean. There are no regular tasks for you to do. The system generates electricity automatically and your inverter monitors performance in the background.
Occasional cleaning:
If you notice a build-up of bird droppings, pollen, or leaves, a gentle hose-down from ground level is usually sufficient. Avoid using pressure washers or abrasive materials.
Professional inspection:
We recommend a professional inspection every 3–5 years. This includes checking electrical connections, inverter health, panel condition, and overall system performance. It is a straightforward check that ensures everything is working at its best.
Inverter lifespan:
The panels themselves typically last 25–30 years or more. The inverter usually lasts 10–15 years before needing replacement. Modern hybrid inverters also allow you to add battery storage when the time comes.
We offer maintenance and repair services for all systems, including those installed by other companies.
