Can I add a battery later if I start with panels?

Yes, absolutely. Adding a battery later is straightforward and something we do regularly.

How it works:

  • AC-coupled retrofit — a battery with its own inverter connects to your existing system without changing your current solar inverter. This works with any PV setup.
  • Hybrid inverter upgrade — if your inverter is due for replacement (typically after 10–12 years), we can fit a hybrid inverter that manages both solar and battery in one unit.
  • Standalone battery — you do not even need solar panels. A standalone battery charges from cheap off-peak grid electricity (as low as 9p/kWh on tariffs like Octopus Go) and discharges during peak hours when rates are 30p+ per kWh.

We design systems with future expansion in mind. If you start with panels now, we will ensure the setup is ready for a battery to be added later with minimal additional work.
